Silver maple drops limbs in July with no wind at all. That's the call we get most from the flats west of the village, down toward the Genesee bridge, where the floodplain soil grows cottonwood and soft maple fast and weak. A summer squall shears the top out of one and it lands across a barn roof or a fence line. We take those down in pieces, rig what has to swing, and grind the stump flat so a mower can go over it.
In the village it's a different job. Sugar maples over 19th-century houses, planted close, with slate and old asphalt underneath and not much room between the curb and the porch. Bucket work handles a lot of it, but on the tight lots we climb. Out on Rt 39 and River Rd the horse farms mean long lanes, gates, and a conversation about where the chipper sits before anything gets cut. We come off I-390 exit 10 and head for the Circle like everyone else.

Can you get equipment down a long farm lane off River Rd?
Usually, yes. We'll ask about gate width, soft ground, and whether horses need moving before we bring a chip truck or lift in. If the lane won't take weight, we climb and carry brush out.
A storm split my maple but it's still standing. Does it all have to go?
Not always. A clean single-limb failure on a healthy sugar maple can often be pruned back and left. A split through the main union is different — that's structural, and on a tree over a house we'd rather remove it than watch it.
